New Seats / Back Seat Fire

Pauls 68 Chevelle New Seats / Back Seat Fire

Put The Fire Out!!

I just had the front seats re-upholstered and had taken the car to a muffler shop to have the inner seat brackets welded in. 24 hrs later, I find my car full of smoke, due to the foam in the back seat slowly burning away. Poor preparation by the shop resulted in spark(s) from the welding process to get under the back seat and light it off. I was lucky I didn't lose the whole car!! Quite a bit of smoke damage has to be cleaned up, including replacing the headliner, sunvisors and seatbelts (one of them was actually burned in half) and of course re-upholstering the back seat. It's gonna take a while to get it all done, but I'll keep posting pictures as progress is made.

(I'll post photos of the new front seats once I get them re-installed with the carpet etc.)

After the burning part was removed

This is still burning!

Got it on the Lawn and put it out with the garden hose!

Close Up; it's burned right through.

Charred remains scattered on the ground as I pulled it out!

The whole seat is out, cleanup begins...
